1980s Hong Kong action star Leung Kar-yan appeared in a string of action classics for Golden Harvest and various indie companies. None was more entertaining and inventive than the Ronny Yu directed ‘Postman Strikes Back’. Leung, known to fans as ‘Beardy’, plays the eponymous delivery man who finds himself putting a team together to embark on a dangerous mission across Republican era China.
With action by key members of Yuen Woo-ping’s team, the film was shot on icy locations in South Korea. The film co-stars Chow Yun-fat, ina a rare early martial arts fighting role. With echoes of ‘The Dirty Dozen’, ‘Postman Strikes Back’ features ice-skating ninjas, the ultimate kung fu fighting double team and a truly explosive finale.
