In 1988, the Golden Harvest and Shaw Brothers studios joined forces to make a film telling the story of Hong Kong’s greatest generation of kung fu movie-makers. Director Alex Law cast the great Sammo Hung as the maestro Yu Jim-yun, teacher of genre legends Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Corey Yuen Kuei, Yuen Wah and the young Sammo himself. The film depicts in loving detail the early years of these heroes of Hong Kong action cinema. Also in the cast are genre veteran Lam Ching-ying and former Shaw Brothers swordplay queen Cheng Pei Pei, here playing a Chinese Opera school teacher.
