About This Book
Overview

Reel East is proud to collaborate with kung fu master and movie star Lau Kar-yung. Lau Sifu is a member of the greatest family in the history of Southern Chinese martial arts cinema. His grandfather was the Hung Gar master and actor Lau Cham. His uncle, Lau Kar-leung, was the unmatchable director of such Shaw Bros classics as ‘The 36th Chamber of Shaolin’. His second uncle, Lau Kar-wing, action directed the international smash ‘Five Fingers of Death’ (AKA ‘King Boxer’). His adoptive cousin, Gordon Liu, starred in a whole series of kung fu hits before appearing in the ‘Kill Bill’ films.

Lau Kar-yung is himself a superlative Hung Gar expert in the Lam family version of the art, and has starred in a dozen kung fu comedies. Lau Sifu also appeared in the smash hit ‘Drunken Master II’, but is best-known to modern audiences from his role in director Wong Kar-wai’s ‘The Grandmaster’.

Reel East is working with Lau Kar-yung to bring memorabilia from his classic films to the worldwide kung fu film fan audience. Each piece will come signed and personalised by Lau Sifu, making it a truly unique collector’s item.

(Please note, all posters and photos will come signed. The lobbycards sets have signature and message on the top card.)

‘Crazy Couple’ is a kung fu comedy hit produced just as the genre came into its own. It launched its young star, Lau Kar-yung, as a potential successor to Jackie Chan, who had moved on from period comedy kung fu after just two films. Lau was paired with slapstick king Dean Shek, Chan’s co-star from ‘Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow’ and ‘Drunken Master’. The rest of the cast includes veteran bad guy Fung Hark-on and Shaw Bros legend Li-Li Li.

The Lau Gar-yung Collection presents this rare set of 1o full-colour lobbycards, printed on thick paper for display in Hong Kong cinemas during the film’s original theatrical run.
