Reel East’s The Sammo Hung Collection celebrates the work of China’s Orson Welles of action. This triple threat actor, director and choreographer has spent most of his career revolutionising Hong Kong action cinema. Reel East is proud to present original memorabilia from some of Sammo’s milestone movies.

By 1980, Sammo Hung was the most consistent money-spinner in the kung fu comedy, as actor, director, choreographer and producer. Venturing beyond his home studio, Golden Harvest, Hung formed independent ventures with various industry friends. He teamed with actor/director/producers Karl Maka and Raymond Wong to make the wacky comedy ‘By Hook Or By Crook’, which was produced and distributed by their then newly formed Cinema City.

‘By Hook Or By Crook’ features primarily comedians performing comic fight scenes, and Sammo delivering more real deal action. The choreography is handled by Sammo’s own team.

The film’s art director, Yuen Tai-yung, would later make a name for himself as Hong Kong greatest movie poster painter, and provided the classic designs for many of Sammo’s greatest films.
